NMSU presents health symposium

The New Mexico State University Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement will hold the Second Annual Health Disparities Symposium July 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Corbett Center Student Union Auditorium.


This year's topic is Trauma and Trauma Treatment. Featured speaker Capt. Timothy E. Rogers, of the 49th Medical Group at Holloman Air Force Base, will give a talk called "Serving Those Who Serve: Understanding and Treating Military Trauma." Alexander P. Lin, of Brigham and Women's Hospital, will give a talk titled "Virtual Biopsy: Measuring Brain Biochemistry in TBI and PTSD."

A panel discussion will follow and will include Rogers and Lin, as well as NMSU College of Education faculty Jonathan Schwartz and Aishah Ortega. The discussion will focus on how health disparities research informs clinical practice.

A student poster session will be held at 3 p.m., and poster awards and a closing will begin at 4 p.m. Participating students have the opportunity to earn two continuing education hours from the American Psychological Association.
