NMSU's new family housing playground opening is Aug. 29

Thanks to El Paso Electric, Southwest Contract, Steinberg Architects and Sundt Construction, children living in NMSU family housing have a new playground to celebrate.

The new facility will open Aug. 29 with a 4 p.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony led by NMSU President Barbara Couture. The playground is centrally located in the campus' family housing neighborhood, between Standley and Poe drives, near Wells Street.

The playground was paid for with rebates awarded to the university from El Paso Electric for purchasing energy-efficient appliances. Sundt Construction and Steinberg Architects built the playground for free, as part of the Community Build initiative spearheaded by Landscape Structures. NMSU purchased Landscape equipment from Exerplay, of Cedar Crest, N.M. Southwest Contract donated $5,000 towards the purchase of customized TuffRiders - spring-mounted riding seats that are popular playground attractions - with a Pistol Pete likeness.
