NMSU Aggies to rock the Jazzbah

As college football players rest and strategize, New Mexico State University Aggies in Albuquerque will be grooving and listening to one of their own at the Jazzbah night club Sept. 30 at 6 p.m.

Professor Jim Shearer marches to a New Orleans-style second line beat.

NMSU President Barbara Couture will join the Albuquerque Crimson Central Chapter of the Alumni Association in welcoming fellow Aggie and NMSU Professor James Shearer and the Jim Shearer Jazz Ensemble in his inaugural performance at the recently opened venue.

"People should expect an entertaining evening of straight ahead Jazz that everybody can listen to along with some comedic moments and some pieces that are off the beaten path," Shearer said.

Jazz enthusiasts there for the music will also have a chance to enjoy a variety of refreshments with interesting monikers including "Voodoo Magic," "Spicy Secreto" and presumed Aggie favorite, the "Pistol Pete."

"We're really excited about this event and hope to have more like it with our fellow NMSU alumni," said Curtiss Wilson, alumni chairman.
