NMSU campus hosting variety of Tough Enough To Wear Pink events next week

Tough Enough to Wear Pink week always culminates with the New Mexico State University football team's annual Tough Enough to Wear Pink Game, and this year will be no exception, with the Aggies taking on Idaho at 6 p.m. Oct. 15. However, a whole host of events are happening around campus Oct. 9-15, leading up to the big game.

NMSU students will have the opportunity to strut their stuff from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, as Taos Restaurant, on the first floor of Corbett Center Student Union, will host a student dinner, fashion show and silent auction, featuring a wide range of items for bid, including a night at the Inn of the Mountain Gods in Mescalero, N.M., an iPad and a Hewlett-Packard printer.

The mood will turn more reflective for Wednesday's luminaria remembrance ceremony, in which the community is invited to honor and recall loved ones who have been affected by or passed away from cancer. The ceremony will be from 6-8 p.m. in front of the Pan American Center and will include a small reception with music. Those interested in purchasing luminarias may do so at the ceremony or in advance at the NMSU Office of Student Housing and Residential Life, in the Educational Services Center building on campus.

The public also is invited to join the NMSU football team and the Pride of New Mexico Marching Band at a pep rally to get fired up for Saturday's game. The rally is from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13. That will lead into Friday's Pink Happy Hour and Obstacle Course Competition, also open to the public, from 4-6 p.m. on the International Mall.

Finally, the university will host a 5K fun run and walk at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, on the Horseshoe in front of Hadley Hall. Participants may register Saturday morning at the Horseshoe, Thursday at the Pink Happy Hour or in advance by calling Student Housing at 575-646-3202. The cost is $10 for the public and $5 for NMSU students.
