NMSU Rodeo teams climb to first and second place

New Mexico State University's rodeo teams continue to do well with the women's team ranking first and the men's team ranking second in the current standings of the Grand Canyon Region of the Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.


During the rodeo at Chochise College, Jessica Silva helped keep the women's team in the lead by coming up first in two rounds of the breakaway competition while Brandi Pfeifer took a turn coming up first in the breakaway as well. Megan Johnson came out on top of the barrel racing events. Dixie Richards and Shelby Montano took second and third place respectively in goat tying, adding to the successes of the NMSU's women's rodeo team.

During the competitions at Cochise College and Dine College Tony Buckman dominated the bareback competition coming in either first or second place throughout both competitions. Cooper DeWitt, Trenton Montero and Devyn Sisneros picked up points duirnng the saddlebronc competition to help boost the point tally for the men's team.

At the Dine College rodeo, Nicole Sweazea came in first for goat tying with NMSU men's team members taking second and third place in team roping. Westin Fowler and Trenton Montero also helped the men's team by coming in second and third during the bull riding competition.
