UNIVERSITY MUSEUM HOSTS SATURDAY WORKSHOP


Visitors to the New Mexico State University Museum from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 12 will learn how to paint a pot in the Casas Grandes style.

The University Museum is located in Kent Hall at University Avenue and Solano Drive on the NMSU campus.

NMSU MUSIC DEPARTMENT PRESENTS 'NMSU CHOIRS GO BAROQUE'

The New Mexico State University Department of Music will host the second part of "NMSU Choirs Go Baroque," featuring alumna and internationally acclaimed opera star Kirstin Chavez at 3 p.m. Nov. 12 at Atkinson Recital Hall.

The program will feature mezzo-soprano Chavez with Handel's Messiah, Combined Choirs, La Catrina Quartet, Lisa Van Winkle on flute, Kevin Lett on oboe, Isaac Hartman on bassoon and Janet Loman on harpsichord. Baroque program will feature excerpts from Gluck's opera "Orfeo ed Euridice." NMSU Choirs also will join Chavez during some of her performances.

NMSU HOSTS 18TH ANNUAL MARIACHI CONFERENCE

El Paso native Vikki Carr will headline the 18th annual Mariachi Conference at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Pan American Center at New Mexico State University.

Carr will be joined by Jose Hernandez and his Mariachi del Sol de Mexico, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, and Mariachi Cobre.

CLABS PRESENTS TALK BY SANDRA MCGEE DEUSTCH

The Center for Latina American and Border Studies at New Mexico State University will present "A Bad Reputation? The Intimate Lives of Argentine Jewish Women, 1890s-1940s," by Sandra McGee Deustch at 4 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Nason House.

During her lecture Deutsch will discuss the belief many people held in the late 1800s to the 1940s that a majority of prostitutes in Argentina were Eastern European Jews. The lecture will address the specter of prostitution that haunted Argentine Jews.

The lecture is free and open to the public. The Nason House is located at 1200 University Ave. across from FedEx/Kinko's.

NMSU DANCE PROGRAM PRESENTS 'TASTE OF DANCE'

The New Mexico State University Dance Program will present "Taste of Dance" at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at the James B. Delamater Activity Center.

"Taste of Dance" will feature performances by students in various dance classes at NMSU, including modern, jazz, ballroom and flamenco.

Tickets cost $2 for general admission and are free for Pan American Dance Institute members and can be purchased at the door.

NMSU THEATRE ARTS HOSTS 'ONCE IN A LIFETIME' PREVIEW PERFORMANCE

American Southwest Theatre Company at New Mexico State University Theatre Arts will present a preview performance of the classic Kaufman and Hart screwball comedy, "Once in a Lifetime," at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Hershel Zohn Theatre.

Regular performance times will be 7:30 p.m. for Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows and 2 p.m. for Sunday shows Nov. 18 through Dec. 4. Tickets range from $10-$15 and are available at the Hershel Zohn Theatre Box Office between noon and 4 p.m. or by calling 575-646-4515.

ART GALLERY HOSTS MEOW WOLF

The New Mexico State University Art Gallery will host the Santa Fe-based artists' collective Meow Wolf for a five-week installation of an immersive art experience. The campus community is invited to visit the gallery while the work progresses, and to get involved if desired.

The opening reception will be Nov. 30, but everyone is welcome to join in the creativity during the installation to prepare for the opening.
