New College of Education award to honor academic achievement

The New Mexico State University College of Education will present 10 undergraduate students with the inaugural Dean's Academic Award during a ceremony Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. in the O'Donnell Hall Atrium.

The award will recognize students who made the dean's lists as well as their academic achievement with an honors plaque. It will be awarded to the outstanding senior and nine other students each fall and spring semester. Students who have made the dean's list three or more times are eligible for the honor.

This year the College of Education will honor Allie Bailey, from Albuquerque, N.M, as the outstanding senior. The elementary education major will graduate as a crimson scholar and on the dean's list with a 3.984 GPA.

The other Dean's Academic Award recipients include Sabrina E. Hutchins, LeeAnn Ingram, Mason K. Jackson, Mallory Kucko, Amanda Mata, Eliana Miranda, Denise Marie Saldana, Carla Urban and Jennifer R. Whiteley.

The College of Education will also honor its doctorate candidates at the Dean's Doctorate Tea and Outstanding Senior Ceremony on Friday, Dec. 9, at 3:30 p.m., also in the O'Donnell Hall Atrium.

The ceremony began ten years ago and is held each fall and spring as part of the commencement activities. The outstanding senior receives a monetary award of $500, and this year's 21 doctorate candidates will receive a "Lamp of Knowledge" medallion, made especially for the college, with their name and year engraved.
