Maj. Gary G. Stewart, an assistant professor of military science, was promoted on Nov. 3 and Maj. Jason Adams, an assistant professor of aerospace studies, was promoted Oct. 31.

"Promotion within the Army is not based on performance, but on potential," said Lt. Col. Andrew Taylor, NMSU Army ROTC commander. "Major Stewart's promotion is even more noteworthy as he joins the ranks of field grade officer - a major milestone in the officer ranks."

In traditional Air Force and Army ceremonies at Young Hall, family members pinned on the officers' new rank. Lt. Col. Bennett, the AFROTC commander, administered the oath of office for Adams.

"Jason's promotion was well deserved and marks years of hard work, dedication and sacrifice," Bennett said. "I'm glad his family could be there since their support and sacrifice over the years has made his success possible."

Stewart previously worked as the recruiting and retention officer and now serves in the increased responsibility as the ROTC Bataan Battalion Executive Officer.

Adams, the Commandant of Cadets at Detachment 505 and director of operations, will take on additional responsibilities as the recruiting flight commander and operations flight commander.
