During her tenure with the university, she has held a series of positions with increased responsibility, including assistant athletics director for business, director of financial operations, director of auxiliary business services, assistant vice president for auxiliary services, and associate vice president for administration and finance. Before joining NMSU, Throneberry worked in public accounting as an auditor for both KPMG Peat Marwick and Arthur Andersen. "I am honored to be selected as New Mexico State University's next senior vice president for administration and finance. "I look forward to working with President Couture, the Board of Regents and the entire campus community in fulfilling our mission as the state's land-grant institution and maintaining our commitment to excellence. Together we will meet our financial challenges while advancing our university through achievement of strategic goals and planning for future growth."

As the senior vice president for administration and finance, Throneberry is responsible for the university's financial and administrative operations, including budget and planning; human resource services; accounting and financial reporting activities; university accounts receivable; procurement services and risk management; auxiliary services; information technology and communications; and facilities and services. She will start immediately, at a salary of $220,000.
