"Desiree's Decadence," a ceramic sculpture by Ovidio Giberga who will give a presentation at the New Mexico State University Art Gallery on symbolism and ceramic art work.

Giberga, a visiting professor from the University of Florida, said the Southwest's rich ceramic history, particularly the symbolic imagery of the Mimbres pottery, has been a great inspiration to his work.

"My experience in New Mexico has added new shapes and forms to my visual vocabulary," Giberga said. "When conceiving ideas for my sculptures I use images or forms of real objects from my surrounding environment as symbols. I invite speculation and give the work different levels of interpretation."

The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information contact Jackie Mitchell at (505) 646-4010.
