"Digerati: Encounters with Digital Media," presented by the Rio Grande Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, will give digital media techies the opportunity to connect with leaders in the industry.

The event is featuring keynote speakers Barbara Chamberlin, the project director for NMSU's Learning Games Lab, and Lance Maurer, CEO and owner of Cinnafilm.

Chamberlain will deliver her address "You're Pushing My Buttons: How Games, Mobile Devices and Apps are Changing the Way we Think and Learn," from 1:40-2:30 p.m.

Maurer's presentation is titled "Cinnafilm - From Paper Napkin to Hollywood; A Modern Entrepreneurship Story." He will speak from 4:10-5 p.m.

The event also serves to share animation news with local animators and to find like-minded people for future collaborations, according to Derek Fisher, the director of animation and visual effects at CMI in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Jon Whetzel, of International Game Developers Association will give his presentation, "Global Game Jam: The Next 48 hrs: What to do after the jam to keep the spirit alive?" from 2:35-3 p.m.

Gaming software developers Erik Measure and Karl Sabo of Nimbly Games will talk about their "Current Work" from 3:35-4:05 p.m.

Following the conference, attendees are invited to enjoy free appetizers at the Sunset Grill, located at 1274 Golf Club Road.

"CMI and CMT programs are supportive of the SIGGRAPH's focus on developing opportunities for media students through exposure to industry experts, career networking, mentoring and workshops," Fisher said.
