NMSU Extension to host home and garden workshop at Bernalillo County 4-H Center

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Spring is just around the corner, so it's time to get back into the yard and garden. It's also time to learn some new strategies for success with home and garden projects.

> New Mexico State University's Small Farm and Ranch Task Force is hosting a free home and garden workshop Saturday, March 31, at the Bernalillo County 4-H Center, 1510 Menaul Blvd., Albuquerque.

"With spring coming, many folks are getting excited about the upcoming growing season," said Steve Lucero, Sandoval County Extension agricultural agent and chair of the SFRTF. "This workshop is a collaborative effort geared toward providing timely information on many aspects of gardening and the home economy."

Two tracks of three 55-minute educational sessions will be held during the morning and repeated in the afternoon. The morning sessions begin at 9 a.m., with the afternoon program beginning at 1 p.m.

Sessions will include:

? "Food Preservation" with Cindy Davies, Bernalillo County Extension home economist
? "Berry Production" with Shengrui Yao, NMSU fruit specialist
? "Composting" with Joran Viers, Bernalillo County horticulturalist
? "Gardening" with Albuquerque Area Master Gardeners
? "Marketing Your Produce" with Laura Bittner, Valencia County Extension home economist
? "House Plants and Floral Demonstration" with John Garlisch, Bernalillo County Extension agricultural agent

The workshop is a regional program sponsored by the Cooperative Extension Service in Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance and Valencia counties.
