Plan ahead to avoid parking, traffic problems at NMSU Spring 2012 Commencement

New Mexico State University's Spring 2012 Commencement ceremonies are less than a week away. Thousands of eager students and families have planned the menu for post-commencement celebrations, purchased gifts and made hotel reservations. But, have you considered the traffic and parking situations associated with large crowds of out-of-town guests? If not, here's what you need to know.

This is a parking map for the New Mexico State University Spring 2012 Commencement. Parking lots are shaded dark red and the Pan American Center gray.

All NMSU parking lots are free and available for use on graduation day, unless marked closed due to construction. Select spaces are reserved and marked for specific vehicles, such as service zones, fire lanes and handicapped spaces. Avoid these spaces as they are 24-hour tow away zones and will be enforced.

To avoid traffic congestion, plan to arrive at the Pan American Center at least 30 minutes prior to each ceremony start time. The quickest ways into and out of the Pan American Center are to approach from Stewart Street and to enter the parking lots southwest of the facility, according to the NMSU Police Department. Arrowhead Drive will be closed during commencement activities.

Drivers with a handicapped permit are asked to correctly display the pass from the vehicle's rearview mirror and to use turning signals as appropriate, so that officers may direct you accordingly.

All drivers are asked to watch officers and other event staff for directions and to follow the directions given.
