Nava, Taylor to be honored by NMSU College of Education

New Mexico State University's College of Education will honor state Sen. Cynthia Nava and the Honorable J. Paul Taylor with the first Aggie Cornerstone Awards at 6 p.m. June 5 at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum.


The College of Education has established the award to celebrate excellence in education and recognize individuals who have made a significant impact on children and families in New Mexico. Tickets for the awards dinner are $50 per person and all proceeds will go to College of Education scholarships.

Taylor is a strong advocate for the arts and education and has been dedicated to public service, the results of which will impact New Mexicans for generations to come. Taylor served in the New Mexico House of Representatives for 18 years and served for more than three decades as a teacher, principal and superintendent in New Mexico.

Nava has served as New Mexico Senator for District 31 since 1993. She has served as co-chair of the Public School Capital Outlay Oversight Task Force, vice-chair for the Legislative Education Study Committee and as chair of the Senate Education Committee. She also sponsored the legislation that established the Department of Education and the Department of Higher Education. Nava is a retired superintendent from the Gadsden Independent School District.
