2012 Summer sports program at New Mexico State University

Following are some of the activities that will take place on the main campus this summer, in addition to the regular summer sessions for NMSU students. DEWAYNE WALKER FOOTBALL CAMP

June 14-15

The DeWayne Walker Football Camp will give athletes the opportunity to showcase their talents with intense non-contact skill work. Each staff member is hand chosen by NMSU head coach DeWayne Walker for their extensive knowledge of the game and coaching expertise. The camp will include a skills camp for all participants, an offensive and defensive line skills camp, and a seven-on-seven tournament. It is possible to only attend the Friday, June 15 skills camp for $75. The cost of the entire camp is $150. Teams will receive a discounted rate. Meals and housing will not be provided.

KATHY RODOLPHS JUST PLAY SOFTBALL SCHOOL

May 22- June 19 (12 and under)
June 13- July 18 (13 and up)

Softball School is designed to get a jump start on the 2012 summer softball season. Players will participate in a hitting session at 5 p.m. and/or a defense session at 6 p.m. one night a week for a total of five weeks. Tuesday nights will be open to participants under the age of 12 from May 22-June 19, and Wednesdays will be for players 13 and up from June 13-July 18. Cost is $100 per player for an hour a week for five weeks in either the hitting or defense session. Participants will receive a 20 percent discount if they enroll in both sessions. AGGIE VOLLEYBALL CAMPS

College Prep Camp

July 27-29

This camp is designed to raise the skill level of each athlete and expose them to a collegiate practice environment. Campers ages 14-18 will be grouped by level of athleticism, experience and age into elite, intermediate or beginner levels in order to receive the highest level of training. The camp will focus on developing all volleyball skills in a fun and energetic environment. It is for players who have a lot of experience and are looking for a competitive environment. Each camp staff member is handpicked by Jordan according to his or her coaching expertise and extensive knowledge of the game. The camp costs $200 per commuter camper and $350 for overnight campers, and a camp T-shirt will be provided.

Team Camp

July 13-15

This camp will focus on developing the campers' passing, setting, attacking, defense and transition skills in a team environment. Sessions will include advanced offensive and defensive systems with information and team concepts offered by Mike Jordan, NMSU volleyball head coach, and camp staff for each team. This camp also provides tournament experience for high school teams considering competing prior to preseason. Each team will be provided with its own camp coach and will have the opportunity to work directly with Jordan. Each camp staff member is handpicked by Jordan according to his or her coaching expertise and extensive knowledge of the game. The camp costs $100 per camper. Housing and meals are not provided. Overnight teams and individual campers are responsible for making accommodations off campus at Comfort Suites at 575-522-1300 or Sleep Inn at 575-522-1700. Both locations are within walking distance of the gyms at NMSU, where the camps will take place.

Middle School Camp

July 21-22

This camp, open to girls and boys ages 10-15, will teach the fundamental skills of volleyball in a fun environment. Each camper will receive skill instruction under NMSU head coach Mike Jordan and have the opportunity to play in competitive games. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days and costs $50 per camper. Participants will need to bring their own lunch.
Specialty camps

Aug. 4

Serving and Passing Clinic: Each session begins with a group demonstration and instruction by Mike Jordan, NMSU volleyball head coach, and staff. The single-item-focus style of teaching allows girls and boys of all ages to gain specific skill instruction on serving, digging and passing. The session is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $50 per camper. Participants will need to bring their own lunch.

Aug. 5

Setter and Attacker Clinic: Each session begins with a group demonstration and instruction by Mike Jordan, NMSU volleyball head coach, and staff. The single-item-focus style of teaching allows girls and boys of all ages to master the art of setting and attacking. The session is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $50 per camper. Participants will need to bring their own lunch.
