CELEBRATE BARBARA 'MOTHER' HUBBARD'S 85TH BIRTHDAY


New Mexico State University and the Office of Special Events will celebrate the 85th birthday of local living legend, Barbara "Mother" Hubbard with a program and dance from 7:30-11 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at the NMSU Pan American Center. The free event will feature performances by Dru Hubbard's band, "The Liars," Brennin Hunt of the X factor and Dennis D'Amico, Broadway producer and entertainer. Free cake and refreshments will be available.

A VIP reception and dinner will also take place prior to the free public event from 5-7 p.m. on the Pan Am floor with tickets available at $85 each with net proceeds to benefit the tax deductible Barbara and Peirce Hubbard Scholarship Endowment at NMSU.

THE MIKADO AT ATKINSON HALL

Starlight Children's Theatre of Las Cruces performs Gilbert and Sullivan's classic at 1 and 7 p.m. July 14 at NMSU's Atkinson Music Recital Hall. NMSU HOSTS SENIOR OLYMPICS

The New Mexico Senior Olympics 2012 Summer Games will be held at various locations throughout Las Cruces from July 25-29, with many events held on the main campus of New Mexico State University. The public is invited to watch the Olympians in action. Opening ceremonies will take place at 7 p.m. July 25 at NMSU Pinon Hall, and the final dance will be held at 8 p.m. in the Corbett Center Ballroom.

THINKING NEW MEXICO: A CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION CONTINUES

The NMSU Art Gallery's summer exhibition, "Thinking New Mexico: A Centennial Exhibition," continues through Sept. 1. A celebration of the centennial of New Mexico statehood (1912-2012,) this exhibition will showcase artwork from each decade of statehood and survey the best in contemporary New Mexico art.

BARNES AND NOBLE HOSTS FREE PUBLIC OPEN MIC NIGHTS

Barnes & Noble at New Mexico State University will host free open mic nights from 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays during the summer months. The public is invited to enjoy the free performances or to sign up to take the stage themselves.

Barnes & Noble at NMSU is located at 1400 E. University Ave. on the corner of Jordan Street and provides free public parking just south of the building.
