SENIOR OLYMPICS CONTINUE AT NMSU


The New Mexico Senior Olympics 2012 Summer Games will be held at various locations throughout Las Cruces from July 28-29, with many events held at New Mexico State University's Las Cruces campus. The public is invited to watch the athletes in action. A final dance will be held at 8 p.m. July 29 in the Corbett Center Ballroom.

PAN AMERICAN DANCE INSTITUTE PRESENTS THE LADY OF WHITE SANDS

The Pan American Dance Institute in association with New Mexico State University Dance Program presents "The Lady of White Sands," an original ballet based on the legend of Paloma Blanca, at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Rio Grande Theater. The score and libretto were written by Alamogordo resident J.D. Droddy with the choreography by Ann Gavit, Anne Bishop and Sara Jackewicz. Performers include dancers from NMSU, UTEP, Las Cruces and El Paso private studios. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and children 12 and under.

NMSU DANCE PROGRAM TO HOST SUMMER WORKSHOP

The Pan American Dance Institute and the New Mexico State University Dance Program will host a summer workshop in August for dancers age 13 and up. The classes will be broken into intermediate or advanced levels and run Monday, Aug. 6 through Saturday, Aug. 11, at the NMSU Activity Center. The workshop will feature guest artists Matthew Keefe and Brittany Fridenstine-Keefe and NMSU instructors Debra Knapp and Ann Gavit. Classes will include ballet, jazz, modern and gyrokenesis.

A placement class to determine intermediate and advanced levels will be held Sunday, Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. The classes are Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a lunch break from 12:15-1:15 p.m. Two master classes will take place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

BARNES AND NOBLE HOSTS FREE PUBLIC OPEN MIC NIGHTS

Barnes & Noble at New Mexico State University will host free open mic nights from 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays during the summer. The public is invited to enjoy the free performances or to sign up to take the stage themselves.

Barnes & Noble at NMSU is located at 1400 E. University Ave. on the corner of Jordan Street and provides free public parking just south of the building.
