Author Liz Securro to speak at NMSU

Liz Securro, author of "Crash Into Me: A Survivor's Search for Justice," will speak at New Mexico State University at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 21 in the Corbett Center Ballrooms as part of Aggie Welcome and Orientation week. Afterward, Securro will sign copies of the book for fans.

Securro became a victims' rights activist after she was raped her freshman year at the University of Virginia in 1984. Now, she travels to universities all over the nation telling her story to students to raise awareness of the trauma that victims of rape endure.

In her book, Securro details the events of the night of her rape as well as those that preceded it. The book reveals the alarming lack of concern that society has for rape victims.

After 21 years, her attacker emailed her asking for her forgiveness and in the process brought back all the memories from that horrible night. She began a dialogue with him so that she could fully understand why it happened to her. It was through this communication that she finally gained the courage to press charges.
