New Mexico State Choral Department to host annual New Mexico Youth Choir Festival

More than 200 elementary and middle school choral students from around the state will take part in the annual New Mexico Youth Choir Festival at New Mexico State University Jan. 31-Feb. 2.

g clinicians Arlene Graham Sparks and Lynne Gackle will conduct two days of rehearsals for the students. The clinic will conclude with a performance by each of the choirs on Saturday, Feb. 2, in the Music Center Recital Hall. The elementary choir will perform at 10 a.m. and the middle school choir will perform at 11 a.m. Admission is $2 per person, payable at the door.

Gackle, of Tampa, Fla., is the most sought-after clinician for All State Choirs and Honor Choirs in the country. She received her Bachelor of Music Education from Louisiana State University and her Master of Music from the University of Miami.

Sparks is in her 12th year as the director and vocal instructor at the Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, Fla. She received a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance and a Bachelor of Music Education in choral music from Florida State University. She obtained a Master's Degree in Choral Conducting at the University of South Florida.
