Two El Paso choirs to be featured in Jack Ward Invitational Choir Festival

The New Mexico State University Choirs will present the Jack Ward Invitational Choir Festival at 8 p.m. March 14 and 15, in the New Mexico State Music Center Recital Hall.

The choir festival will feature choirs from two El Paso, Texas, high schools -- Burges High School Choir, conducted by Gina Valverde, and Franklin High School Choir, conducted by Rueben Reza.

The New Mexico State University Singers and Concert Choir, directed by Jerry Ann Alt and accompanied by Laura Spitzer, will also be featured in the concert. University Singers will perform five of seven movements of Brahms' "Requiem" in German, with Robert Chumbley, baritone, as student soloist on the third movement.

"Requiem" will be performed in its entirety in Santa Fe, N.M., on April 12 and 13 with the Santa Fe Symphony and Chorus, directed by Steven Smith. University Singers were invited to join in this Brahms performance, bringing their chorus to around 100 singers.

A limited number of tickets are available for $8, $10 and $12. For ticket information call (505) 646-1993.
