Mongolian State University of Education to visit NMSU

New Mexico State University will welcome members of a faculty and administrative delegation from Mongolian State University of Education from Nov. 12-17. The focus of the delegation visit is to explore opportunities for collaborative research and to further understand mutual educational philosophies and pedagogy of the two institutions.

Mongolia was a Soviet bloc country of the U.S.S.R. for 70 years, until 1992. Currently, Mongolia is an emerging democratic nation and is looking at a more global understanding of what constitutes quality educational practice. The MSUE-NMSU partnership allows the participants of both institutions an introduction to different perspectives for the development and maintenance of educational systems that investigate what is "good" teaching, research and service.

In April 2011, NMSU became the first institution of higher education in the United States to sign a formal memorandum of understanding with Mongolian State University of Education.

"This is a great opportunity for us" said Candace Kaye, associate professor of curriculum and instruction and the person who has spearheaded the initiative.

Kaye's connection to Mongolia began nearly two decades ago when she served as the U.S. information agency liaison between the U.S. embassies in Beijing and Ulaan Baatar, the capital of Mongolia. She also was a 2010-2011 Fullbright Teaching and Research Scholar in Mongolia and currently serves as a consultant to the Mongolian Institute of Educational Research in the Ministry of Education.

The visiting members of the delegation are Badrakh Jadambaa, MSUE president; Jamsrandorj Batdelger, dean of MSUE Institute of Preschool Education; Altangerel Oyunbileg, MSUE institute chair of pedagogy; and Tseden Erdeneghimeg, Batsaikhan Javavzandulam and Daaiimaa Purevsuren, MSUE institute faculty members.

To kick off their visit, President Jadambaa will introduce MSUE and their work with NMSU Monday, Nov. 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in O'Donnell Hall, Room 111. After a week of scheduled activities, on Thursday, Nov. 15, the NMSU College of Education will host collaborative research faculty workshops.
