Fiestas Latinas events to be at New Mexico State University

Fiestas Latinas, a series of events every spring, will be at New Mexico State University through April.

iety of Hispanic Professional Engineers will host an awards reception at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, in the West and Middle Ballrooms of Corbett Center. Outstanding Hispanic students from each of New Mexico State's colleges will be recognized at the reception. Refreshments will be served.

The Hispanic Business Students' Association will host a chile cook-off from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, on the Corbett Outdoor Stage. Synario, an alternative music band, will perform and prizes will be awarded to the winners of the salsa (chile) contest.

The Omega Delta Phi fraternity will host a softball tournament in April at the New Mexico State softball fields. The tournament is open to students, faculty and staff.

The Hispanic Educator's Association will host Mentor for a Day in April. High school students will participate in educational workshops, speakers and interactive activities.

The Mexican American Engineers and Scientists will host the Fiestas Latinas Comedy Night in April at Preciado Park. Dates and times for the softball tournament, Mentor for a Day and Comedy Night will be announced.

Fiestas Latinas is sponsored by New Mexico State's Hispanic student organizations and the Associated Students of New Mexico State University.

The public is invited to attend Fiestas Latinas events. Admission is free and pre-registration for competitions is required.
