New Mexico State University's HBSA receives national award

New Mexico State University's Hispanic Business Student Association (HBSA) was awarded the Chapter of the Year Award from the National Hispanic Business Association (NHBA) in February at the 13th annual NHBA Leadership Conference in Austin, Texas.

pter of the Year Award recipient is chosen on the basis of participation in activities such as community service events, professional workshops, fund-raisers and socials. Twenty-two chapters competed for the national award.

This year, HBSA has participated in New Mexico State's Halloween Howl, scavenger hunts with other campus organizations and the Las Cruces International Mariachi Conference. Group members also volunteered at La Casa, a shelter for battered women and children, and hosted a brisket dinner fund-raiser and professional workshops with companies such as Conoco Phillips and General Motors. The chapter was founded in 1982 and currently has 32 members.

NHBA is a national network of students and alumni whose mission is to address educational and business issues among Hispanics. It is managed by an executive council of students from universities across the nation and supported by a national council of representatives from its 22 charter schools.
