Noche de Luminarias shines brightly at New Mexico State

New Mexico State University will hold its annual Noche de Luminarias from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Corbett Center Student Union.

ht of Lights is one of the largest luminaria displays in southern New Mexico with more than 6,000 luminarias lighting the university's International Mall, from the Pan American Center to Corbett Center. Last year's festivities drew more than 1,500 students, faculty, staff and community members.

The holiday activities will include music, caroling, rides in a horse-drawn trolley by Frontier Adventures and a visit with Santa Claus. Children can have a Polaroid picture taken with Santa for $1. All other activities are free.

Music will be provided by Mariachi Rio Bravo, Los Bohemios and residence hall groups strolling the walkways. The university's DanceSport Club will be available to give quick lessons in some of today's popular dances. The Bookstore will have select items marked down 20 percent from 5 to 8 p.m. and holiday refreshments will be served in second level lobby of the student union.

Las Cruces High School Band members are making and lighting the luminarias this year. Sponsors include the Union Program Council, the Corbett Center Student Union, the Associated Students of New Mexico State University Activities, the Corbett Center Copy Center, the Department of Housing and Dining Services and the President's Office.
