NMSU College of Arts and Sciences to honor faculty, staff for excellence

New Mexico State University faculty and staff in the College of Arts and Sciences will be honored in a public event at NMSU's Center for the Arts. The awards ceremony, emceed by Maestro Lonnie Klein of the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra, will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in the Mark and Stephanie Medoff Theatre. Doors will open to the public at 3:30 p.m. A reception on the third floor Grand Terrace will immediately follow the awards presentation.

"The College of Arts and Sciences is fortunate to have so many dedicated and talented staff and faculty," said Christa Slaton, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. "Our awards ceremony will recognize those who have been selected by their peers to receive recognition for excellence in their fields."

At the ceremony, the college will honor staff members for their commitment to excellence and faculty will receive awards for outstanding achievement in scholarship and research, teaching and service. The S.P. Manasse and Margaret Manasse Endowed Fund Scholar award will also be presented. The Manasse award is a two-year, $10,000 award presented to faculty members who are actively engaged in scholarship, exhibit outstanding teaching and research and have excelled in their discipline. Faculty will also receive travel grants, course release awards and a development grant.

Departments also will be honored for their achievements in diversity, advising and retention. One person will be recognized as the College of Arts and Sciences' outstanding department head.

Winners of the top awards will be featured in videos produced by the Creative Media Institute. Each video profile will highlight these winners and their accomplishments.

"We're thrilled to showcase our outstanding faculty and staff," said Slaton, "and we invite the university and community to join us in a great celebration of their accomplishments."
