Harvey Stone to speak at NMSU during Earth Week

Environmentalist and author Harvey Stone will speak about climate change during New Mexico State University's celebration of Earth Day April 17-19. All events will be free and open to the public.

"I am really excited that we have so much interest in someone who is here to talk about climate change," said Connie Falk, NMSU professor of agricultural economics and agricultural business. "I look forward to meeting him and see what he has to say."

Harvey Stone is a former speechwriter for Apple, HP, Visa and has assisted companies like Bausch and Lomb to comply with toxicity and e-waste laws. He has also been a sustainability consultant to the EPA and the Kansas City Climate Action Task Force. Stone authored the book "Melting Down," a climate thriller novel.

The first event to take place will be hosted by NMSU Great Conversations on Campus. There, Stone will talk about climate change. The event will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. on April 17 in Corbett Center Room 148.

Stone will give a lecture titled "Climate Dominoes: Which Way Will They Fall?" He will talk about the change that is happening nationally and globally. Stone will speak at 7 p.m. on April 18 at the Rio Grande Theater, 2111 N Main St., Las Cruces. The lecture is sponsored by the Southwest Environmental Center, The city of Las Cruces, the Las Cruces Green Chamber of Commerce and the NMSU Honors College.

Closing out the climate change events is the showing of "Chasing Ice," the story of a mission to change the tide of history by gathering undeniable evidence of our changing planet. Stone will introduce the movie and answer questions after the showing. The film is sponsored by the NMSU Honors College and co-sponsored by the NMSU student sustainability club and Organization of Aggie Students Inspiring Sustainability. It will be shown at 7 p.m. on April 19 in the CMI Theater in Milton Hall.
