Brook has served most of her career at NMSU, joining the business college as an assistant professor in 1980. She has served as associate department head for the Department of Economics and director and assistant dean of the Bureau for Business Research and Services at NMSU.

She earned her bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of California at Santa Barbara and her doctorate in economics from the University of Texas at Austin. She is a specialist in macroeconomics, money and banking, business fluctuations and forecasting.

In her role as associate dean, Brook oversees the college's instruction and general budget, MBA program, advising center and computer lab, among other duties.

She's also the point person for the college's accrediting body, AACSB International ? The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Brook said her role in the accreditation process will remain one of her top priorities as interim dean.

Brook also said the upcoming transition period will see her working with the deans and department heads to assess the goals of the College of Business and developing a strategic plan. She praised Carruthers' stewardship of the college during his tenure.

"The College of Business has succeeded in a lot of areas during the Carruthers administration," Brook said. "He's been terrific for the college in terms of outreach and visibility."

Carruthers, in turn, touted Brook's contributions: "She knows everything about this college, and she's extremely dedicated to it. I think she is one of the finest associate deans ever to grace the campus at NMSU."

Brook is married to Jim Peach, distinguished professor of Economics and International Business at NMSU, and they have one daughter, Kaitlin, who is a student at the University of Oklahoma.

Brook will assume her new duties on June 1. A search committee will be established to seek candidates for the permanent position.

The NMSU College of Business has an enrollment of about 2,000 students and 70 faculty members.
