A new version of "A Christmas Carol" to premiere at New Mexico State

The New Mexico State University Department of Theatre Arts and the American Southwest Theatre Company will present the world premiere of a new version of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" Nov. 30 through Dec. 9 at the Hershel Zohn Theatre on the New Mexico State campus.

adaptation is faithful to the original and was adapted by New Mexico State theater professor Tom Smith. "'A Christmas Carol' is a family play that reinforces positive values. It reminds us that life is very short and to keep joy and love for fellow man always in our hearts," said Smith, who will also direct the play.

The set was designed by resident designer, Jim Billings, and the costumes by costume shop manager, Glenn Breed. Both will evoke London in the late 1800s and will add wit and humor to the show.

Guest lecturer and actor Rod Mecham will play Scrooge. "Mecham is an ideal choice to play Scrooge. In addition to his incredible talent as an actor, Rod will bring a sense of humor to Scrooge that is really enchanting," Smith said.

Roger Butterley, a guest composer from New York, will add warmth to the production with new, original music.

This very lavish and dynamic production is a show that will be in your family's memory for years to come. For more information and reservations call (505) 646-4515 or 1-800-525-2782.
