New Mexico State University choirs to present holiday concert

The New Mexico State University Choirs will perform their most popular concert of the season, "Home for the Holidays," on Nov. 16 and 17 at the university's Music Center Recital Hall. Both performances will begin at 8 p.m.

versity Singers, Masterworks Chorus and the Concert Choir will perform a variety of music celebrating the holidays, featuring the "Chandos Anthem #9" by George Frideric Handel. The University Chamber Orchestra will join the singers. Soloists for the Chandos Anthem will be Elena Armijo, soprano; Stephanie Sanchez, alto; Isaac Quiroga, tenor; and Daniel Bell, bass.

The Concert Choir will sing "Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy," a calypso tune, and "Baby It's Cold Outside" from the film "Neptune's Daughter," plus other popular holiday melodies.

The second section of the program will begin with the first movement of Vivaldi's "Gloria," followed by "Erev Shel Shoshani," which will be sung in Hebrew, and "Good News," a Christmas spiritual. This section will be performed by the Masterworks Chorus.

In the final section of the concert, more than 150 choral singers will perform familiar carols and new songs for the season. The traditional candlelight carol will be "On A Wondrous Night" and the audience will have the opportunity to sing with the choirs on the "Hallelujah Chorus."

Tickets for the concert are $8, $10 and $12. For concert and ticket information call Evelyn Linford at (505) 646-1993.
