Experienced director of innovation to speak at College of Engineering lecture

New Mexico State University's College of Engineering welcomes Douglas Johnson, experienced leader and innovator, to the Verge Fund Lecture Series in Innovation, Ventures and Entrepreneurship. His presentation entitled, "Creating a Culture of Innovation," will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, in Thomas and Brown Hall Room 104.


Johnson is the director of innovation for the Presbyterian Healthcare Services. In his job, he leads employees in the Innovation Lab to bring process improvement, human factors engineering, human-centered design and customer experience concepts together. Johnson has 22 years of experience in process improvement, innovation, information resource management, information quality, software development, decision support, nursing care, health insurance, data warehousing and data modeling.

Johnson has improved and led processes in many healthcare business areas. He also has received numerous awards for his work with process quality improvement and root-cause analysis identification.

Johnson earned a bachelor of science in nursing from the University of New Mexico. He is chair of the New Mexico Innovation Alliance and a charter member of both the International Association of Information and Data Quality and the Healthcare Data Warehouse Association. He also is a member of the Albuquerque Quality Network.
