Army's Golden Knights will join Homecoming celebration

The Golden Knights, the U.S. Army's parachute team, will be at New Mexico State University Thursday, Oct. 11, through Saturday, Oct. 13, to join in the celebration of Homecoming 2001.

m. Oct. 12, the Golden Knights will parachute down during the pep rally, just before the lighting of the bonfire. The Knights will also parachute down at the Homecoming game Oct. 13, during the playing of "God Bless America" before the opening kickoff. The American flag and the game ball will accompany them each time.

"People are expressing a lot of patriotism these days," said Capt. Eric Bradley, a military science instructor at New Mexico State. "I would really hope that affects turnout to the events this weekend."

The Golden Knights are based out of Fort Bragg Army Base in North Carolina. Bradley said they have jumped into prestigious events such as the Super Bowl and presidential inaugurations.

They also will appear at New Mexico State's Corbett Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 11 and 12. for radio and television interviews and to raise awareness of the U.S. Army.

The appearance of the Golden Knights is sponsored by the New Mexico State University ROTC, the New Mexico National Guard, Borman Autoplex, the Associated Students of New Mexico State University, New Mexico State University Athletic Department and American Medical Response.
