New Mexico State University Choirs to present pop and patriotic tunes

The New Mexico State University Choirs, under the direction of Jerry Ann Alt, will kick off their 2001-2002 season with the fourth annual "Let Us Entertain You" Friday, Oct. 12, and Saturday, Oct. 13, at 8 p.m. at the Music Center Recital Hall.

The concert's theme is "Pop, Pap and Patriotism." Members of the university's three choirs will entertain with fun and frivolous music along with well-known, stirring patriotic tunes.

The frivolous part of the program will feature dancers and singers. Highlights will include Peggy Lee's "Spinning Wheel," sung by a mixed quartet, "Let it Rip," popularized by the Dixie Chicks, sung by a women's trio, and "Poison Ivy," sung by Daniel Estorga.

In light of national events in September, the second half of the show will be a celebration of the nation, highlighting soloists and choirs. They will sing patriotic tunes such as "The Stars and Stripes Forever" and "Yankee Doodle Dandy."

Tickets for reserved seating are $8, $10 and $12. For information and reservations, or to purchase season tickets for the series of four choral concerts, call (505) 646-1993.
