Expert Background

Ou Ma joined the faculty of the NMSU department of mechanical engineering in 2002. He was promoted to full professor in 2008. In the last five years, Ma has become a top producer in research, having been awarded 12 federal grants totaling $2.8 million. Additionally, he participated in another two awarded proposals totaling $280,000. He created two new research laboratories the Mechatronics/UAV lab and the Reduced Gravity and Biomechanics lab, which significantly enhanced capability for interdisciplinary research. Since 2007, Ma has coauthored 19 journal publications with his students, one patent, and 45 peer-reviewed conference publications. He routinely reviews papers for leading journals in robotics, dynamics and controls, as well as proposals for the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense and NASA. Ma received a bachelor?s degree in mechanical engineering from Zhejiang University, China. He received master?s and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering from the Center of Intelligent Machines, McGill University, Canada. He worked in aerospace industry for nearly 11 years prior to joining NMSU, directly participating in the development of the space robotic systems for the Space Shuttle and International Space Station.
