NMSU?s partnership with La Semilla project earns national recognition from APLU


New Mexico State University is again being nationally recognized for its institutional commitment to community engagement. The university is one of five schools that were designated ?exemplary awardees? by the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities during its selection process for the 2016 C. Peter Magrath Community Engagement Scholarship Award. The award, established in partnership with the Engagement Scholarship Consortium and with support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, recognizes programs that demonstrate how colleges and universities have redesigned their learning, discovery and engagement missions to become even more involved with their communities.

Medicinal plants presentations to be held Friday

Six students from the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) who participated in the "Medicinal Plants Workshop" this summer will hold poster presentations from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Friday, June 24, in the Skeen Hall rotunda. Light refreshments will be served.

Save the date: First Year Walk welcomes new Aggies on Aug. 16

NMSU?s First Year Walk will take place again this fall at 3 p.m. on Aug. 16. First Year Walk is for all new Aggies to take part in, including traditional and non-traditional freshman and our transfer students new to NMSU.

The walk starts at the top of the International Mall where it meets the Pan Am Center. First year students will walk through campus lead by the dean of students, the Pride Band drum line and Pistol Pete. The students will then pass through the Miller Gates, signifying their official status as Aggies. They end their walk on the Horseshoe near the cornerstone where campus leaders will address the incoming class. Meet the Pride Band, cheerleaders, Pistol Pete and the whole Aggie Family to give our new Aggies a proper welcome.

Mark the First Year Walk on your calendars and encourage your students, faculty, and staff to participate in this exciting day.

DACC Community Education courses available

"Minecraft Animators" will be held in two sessions on July 11 to 15. The morning sessions for ages 8 to 11 take place from 9 a.m. to noon and afternoon sessions for ages 12 to 14 will be from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $109 for either five-day session. Bring your favorite Minecraft characters to life in an animated short film. Learn how studios like Pixar and Disney make movies using techniques like keyframing, tweening, texturing and animating rigged 3D models. Student projects will be available on a Black Rocket Web site. Students do not need to own a Minecraft account to use the software in the course.
