NMSU recognized with national excellence in facilities management award


New Mexico State University is one of three universities recognized with this year?s APPA Award for Excellence in Facilities Management.

The award recognizes excellence in educational facilities operations and highlights the essential role facilities operations plays in overall institutional mission and vision, APPA officials said. The Award for Excellence designation is valid for five years.

Red to Green Money Management Meet-Up to be held July 26

Red to Green Money Management Meet-Up! will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 26, outside Corbett Center. They know Garcia Annex seems so far away, so they are coming to you. Look for our table and grab some great resources on budgeting and financial aid. You can also find more information on workshops or schedule a one-on-one appointment. All students, faculty and staff are welcome.

NMSU Dance Program to host summer dance workshop

The NMSU Dance Program will be holding a summer dance workshop, Monday, Aug. 1 to Saturday, Aug. 6. Dancers, age 11 and up, will have classes in ballet, modern, jazz and hip-hop as well as daily rehearsals of original choreography (Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Delamater Activity Center). The week will culminate on Saturday, Aug. 6 with two performances of "Dr. Seuss on the Move" (2:30 and 7:30 p.m.) at the ASNMSU Center for the Arts. Cost of the workshop - $175.00, includes classes, use of costume, and two complimentary show tickets. 'The Greatest Hits!' to be held Aug. 13

NMSU Contemporary Dancers along with New Desert Harmony Singers will present "The Greatest Hits!" at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at NMSU Atkinsons Recital Hall. All seats are general admission.

Roberts Memorial Staff Award nominations are being accepted

Nominations are currently being sought for the Stephen W. and Robert E. Roberts Memorial Staff Award. The year the award will be presented to a Non-Exempt Employee who meets the criteria listed below.

Eligibility Criteria: 1) Nominees may not be faculty members, nor can they be a member of either the Administrative Council or the Academic Dean?s Council. 2) Nominees must have five (5) or more consecutive years of service with the university. Depending on the award cycle, the selection criteria alternates between non-exempt staff or exempt staff. For 2016, the Roberts Award will honor a non-exempt employee.

In addition to the requirements above, employees can be nominated based on the following traits:

A highly motivated person who is a self-starter.
A person who exhibits dedication to the university.
A person who will remain at the university after receiving the award and serve to influence others through behavior that exemplifies sincerity, motivation and dedication.
A person who not only performs a specific job, but who also serves the university and community as a responsible citizen.
2016 Guidelines: The Nomination form, with no more than five (5) pages of supporting information, should be received by the Center for Learning & Professional Development by email (gsmart@nmsu.edu) or at mail code MSC 3TD no later than Aug. 12, 2016.

NMSU agricultural outreach program receives regional honor

A New Mexico State University agricultural program that provides research-based information to the underserved residents of northern New Mexico has received honors from a regional association.

The Rural Agricultural Improvement and Public Affairs Project is the recipient of the Western Extension Director?s Association Awards of Excellence. The award was presented during the organization?s Western Region Joint Summer Meeting on July 13 in Bozeman, Montana.

?It is certainly an honor for our Rural Agricultural Improvement and Public Affairs Project to be named as a recipient of the Western Extension Directors? Association Awards of Excellence for 2016,? said Jon Boren, NMSU associate dean and Cooperative Extension Service director.

?The purpose of this award is to recognize Extension outreach education programming that has achieved outstanding accomplishments, results and impacts in addressing contemporary issues in one or more of the 13 Western states and territories.?
