NMSU?s Patricia Sullivan to chair Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education

New Mexico State University College of Engineering Associate Dean for Outreach Patricia A. Sullivan was elected chair of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education during the commission?s semi-annual meeting held in Westminster, Colorado, in the fall.

One of four regional higher education compacts in the U.S., WICHE and its 16 member states and U.S. territory work collaboratively to expand educational access and excellence for all citizens of the West. Governors of the member states and territory each appoint three commissioners to this regional governing body. Sullivan was recently reappointed by New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez to serve a fourth term on the commission.

Free blood pressure screenings today

The Campus Health Center continues Heart Month?s Mobile Blood Pressure Clinic today from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Hardman and Jacobs Undergraduate Learning Center. From there, we will head to the Aggie Lounge from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. and then to Milton Hall?s lobby from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. to finish off the day. This event is open to all students, staff and faculty; no I.D. required. Don?t miss out on a chance to know your numbers this month.

See award-winning short film 'Yochi' today

Come see "Yochi," a 25-minute, award-winning film written and directed by filmmaker and NMSU Assistant Professor Ilana Lapid. The film is free and open to the public at 6:30 p.m. today at the Rio Grande Theater, 211 N. Downtown Mall. Doors open at 6 p.m. "Yochi" is a U.S.-Belizean co-production made with a crew that includes several students of the Creative Media Institute at NMSU. "Yochi" recently won Best Short at the 2016 Belize International Film Festival.

"Yochi" is the story of a 9-year-old selectively mute Mayan boy who guards a nest of endangered Yellow-Headed Parrots in Belize?s pine savannah. When his beloved older brother, Itza, returns from the city, Yochi learns that he?s in debt and has turned to poaching ? setting the brothers on a collision course. "Yochi" has been receiving international attention as a film that can ?change people?s minds? about poaching and wildlife conservation.

"Yochi" will be submitted to national and international film festivals, and used for education purposes internationally - raising awareness about the illegal wildlife trade. To watch the trailer and learn about the film, check out the film's website at www.yochifilm.com.

Employee Council meets Thursday

The Employee Council will hold its regular monthly meeting from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Milton Hall, Room 85. All employees are welcome to attend. AFSCME Union monthly meeting Thursday

The Local 2393 NMSU chapter of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Union will hold its monthly meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at the union hall, 138 S. Downtown Mall, Suite D, next to White?s Music Box. Entrance on Water St./parking lot side.

Red to Green Financial Wellness Workshops to be held Wednesday, Friday

Important Documents to Protect Your Assets will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, in Domenici Hall, Room 006.

What is a will? What does a Power of Attorney do? What is a prenuptial agreement? We will answer all of these questions and more. You will learn how to protect your assets and minimize stress for your loved ones by managing assets.

Basic Financial Wellness Workshop will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, in Domenici Hall, Room 005.

Have you ever felt burdened by your finances? Red to Green Money Management is conducting a workshop that will unlock the key components to budgeting, credit cards, identity theft and financial aid, allowing you to gain financial freedom.

Red to Green Financial Wellness: Confessions of a Shopaholic Feb. 15

Red to Green Financial Wellness Confessions of a Shopaholic will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Corbett auditorium.

Do you know how to manage your credit cards? Do you know what APR is? Did you know that credit cards have one of the highest interest rates out there? If you answered "no" to any of these questions you should come to the ?Confessions of a Shopaholic? movie night with Aggie Activity Council. We?re making this as fun as possible for you and want to help you gain a better understanding of your credit cards. It could be helpful to watch the movie and watch someone who also understands the thrill of swiping a credit card to get free stuff. We?ll be handing out information, and your Red to Green Financial Wellness Coaches will be there as well to answer any of your questions, or if you like you could sign up for a one-on-one appointment after the movie. Don?t be scared; it?s good to learn how credit cards work and how to be responsible with one.

Blink-182 to perform at NMSU in March

Blink-182 and The Naked and Famous will perform live at the NMSU Pan American Center in Las Cruces at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25. Tickets are $36.50, $46.50 and $52.50 including fees and will be available for purchase at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at the Pan Am Center Ticket Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, 800-745-3000 and http://www.ticketmaster.com/venue/98676/. There is an eight-ticket limit on all purchases.
