NMSU?s Engineering Without Boundaries brings hope to homeless camp

On a chilly and windy Saturday in late February, a group of 20 New Mexico State University students gathered to discuss the plan for the day. It was one of their last community service days at Camp Hope, a tent city sanctioned by the city for the homeless residents in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Camp Hope was developed in 2011 as a temporary solution to the impending winter and stayed as a permanent shelter for homeless residents. Camp Hope is located within a short distance of a soup kitchen, social services, a medical clinic, restrooms and showers.

Engineering Without Boundaries, a student organization within NMSU?s College of Engineering, designed the layout of the camp into organized plots and has helped perform routine maintenance.

Sustainability Council meeting scheduled for Wednesday

The next Sustainability Council meeting will be held from 1:30?2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Milton Hall Room 85. Sustainability Council meetings are open to students, faculty, staff and community members. Anyone may join the council at anytime; no previous knowledge or experience is necessary.

The meeting will be available online at http://nmsu.adobeconnect.com/sustainabilitycouncil2015/ for those who cannot be there in person, but would like to participate.

DACC Community Education course available

In the DACC Community Education course, Pirate Workshop, explore the world of pirates with new drawing adventures. Pirates, treasure maps, sunken treasures, parrots, a grand pirate ship and more to draw using cartoon and realistic drawing techniques. Complete several drawings each day using the unique Young Rembrandts drawing method. For kids ages 5?12. The course is from 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Thursday, June 29-July 2 and cost $97. DACC Customized Training classes offered

A great sales presentation does not demand you have all the bells and whistles to impress the client with your technical skills. Rather, try impressing your clients with your knowledge of the products and services you sell and your good understanding of their problems and the solutions they need. In the Dynamite Sales Presentations 1 class, students will focus on the key elements of a quality proposal, perfect their first impression and feel more comfortable and professional in face-to-face presentations. The course is 9 a.m.-noon June 23 and costs $79.

Continue to build on your sales presentation skills in the Dynamite Sales Presentations 2 class. Ensure a good understanding of the products and services you have to sell. Focus on your formal written proposal and in-person presentation by practicing the skills learned in the first session. The course is 1-4 p.m. June 23 and costs $79. Dynamite Sales Presentation 1 is a prerequisite for this course.
