Sustainability Council meeting to be held Wednesday

The Sustainability Council meeting will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12. They will watch KRWG?s Simon Thompson?s documentary ?Our Water Future.? The documentary on our water future includes information on pecan and chile growing, Magdalena, New Mexico, running out of water, and how dairy farms affect water quality. The 25-minute documentary covers the biggest issue our region faces: water. They also will have updates on sustainability activities for this fall semester. Everyone is welcome.

Student Success Center and TRIO Student Support Services to relocate

The Student Success Center, TRIO Student Support Services and TRIO Upward Bound are tentatively scheduled to close Wednesday, Aug. 12, in order to relocate to the Hardman and Jacobs Undergraduate Learning Center Room 128. The Student Success Center, TRIO Student Support Services and TRIO Upward Bound will resume normal operating hours on Thursday, Aug. 13.

The ICT Computer Lab located inside the Student Success Center closed Friday, Aug. 7, in preparation of the lab?s relocation to the Hardman and Jacobs Undergraduate Learning Center Room 128. The ICT lab will reopen Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Employee Council meeting will be held Aug. 13

The next meeting of the NMSU Employee Council is set for 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, in Milton Hall Room 85. In addition to reports from representatives on university committees, the agenda includes Darlene Nelson discussing the efforts of the University Advancement office and consideration of Council bylaw revisions.

One-Year-Plus Fellowship applications now available

Applications are now being taken for the One-Year-Plus Fellowship (1Yr +). This is a 16-month fellowship that assists faculty in improving the quality of their online course(s) following Quality Matters best practices and by participating in self-selected professional development. Accepted faculty members are notified in late August and the program starts in early September.

NMSU updates Freedom of Expression policy, goes into effect Sept. 4

After months of work by a committee known as the Free Speech Task Force, the New Mexico State University Board of Regents recently approved a revised Freedom of Expression policy that will go into effect on Sept. 4.

The task force consisted of members jointly appointed by the chancellor and by representatives of students who claimed the university had violated their right to free speech. The jointly appointed members included university representatives from student government, faculty, Faculty Senate, Doņa Ana Community College, NMSU Police Department, NMSU Office of General Counsel as well as members from the Las Cruces community, and student and attorney representatives for those who have exercised their First Amendment rights on campus.

DACC Customized Training class offered

Certificate in Customer Service for the Sales Industry will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22 - Oct. 27. The cost is $229. Whether you are new to the sales industry or would like to improve your customer service and sales skills, this certificate program is for you. There are 12 courses in this program. Must successfully complete all 12 courses to be eligible for certificate. Courses may be taken through open enrollment at $79 each outside of the program.
