NMSU campuses celebrate spring commencement

May is a time for "Pomp and Circumstance" across New Mexico State University, and commencement ceremonies will take place at five locations across the state.

On the main campus in Las Cruces, NMSU will hold two ceremonies Saturday, May 10, at the Pan American Center. At the 9 a.m. ceremony, candidates from the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences; Business; Engineering and Health and Social Services, along with graduate students in those colleges will cross the stage. The 2 p.m. ceremony will include candidates from the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and Education and their graduate students. About 1,600 students are expected to participate in the festivities.

The commencement ceremony for Dona Ana Community College candidates will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces. Candidates from fall 2013, spring 2014 and summer 2014 are receiving degrees with 700 participants expected. Dolores Connor is DACC?s Honorary Degree recipient for 2014.

NMSU-Alamogordo will host its graduation ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday, May 9, at the Tays Center. Candidates from summer 2013, fall 2013 and spring 2014 are participating and more than 90 are expected. George Straface, Alamogordo Public Schools superintendent, will be the commencement speaker, and Gregory Fant, NMSU associate vice president and deputy provost, will confer the degrees. Representatives from Sen. Tom Udall's and Sen. Martin Heinrich?s offices also will attend.

NMSU-Carlsbad will hold it commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday, May 9, at the Walter Gerrells Convention and Exhibition Center. More than 110 candidates from fall 2013, spring 2014 and summer 2014 are expected. Cornell Menking, NMSU associate provost for international and border programs, and Teresa Valenzuela, NMSU College of Education college assistant professor, will be the university representatives.

NMSU-Grants will host its commencement ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, May 9, at the Fidel Gymnasium. With candidates from fall 2013, spring 2014 and summer 2014 participating, about 100 graduates are expected. Anthony Fleg, M.D., is the featured speaker, and Michael Conant, from the Laguna Education Department, will be honored as the Friend of the College. Roberta Derlin, NMSU associate provost, is leading the bachelor?s and master?s candidates.
